Regular Heap Pump Maintenance

As with any product, heating and cooling systems require regular maintenance. If done properly, it can keep your heat pump running in good condition for as long as possible. In this article, we explore what regular maintenance entails and its benefits.

What Does Regular Maintenance Entail?

Although it is not possible for you to carry out a full maintenance check yourself, there are some things which you can do to keep your unit functioning well. The first involves keeping the outdoor unit free of vegetation. This keeps airflow free and unimpeded. We also recommend keeping the unit free of leaves. This check can be done monthly.

One of the most importance parts of maintaining your heat pump involves filter maintenance. For a commercial unit, the quarterly check will review and clean your filters. For a residential unit, you can clean and review your filters yourself. We recommend you do this monthly, as filters become dirty quickly and this impacts on air quality. Maintenance may also involve filter replacement. However, unless they are damaged, filters do not require replacement. They simply require regular cleaning.

For residential units, heat pumps generally require a service annually after the first two years. Commercial systems should be serviced annually with a thorough maintenance check, alongside three quarterly filter checks.

Benefits of Regular Maintenance

Periodic maintenance, when performed by a skilled technician, can have a variety of lasting benefits. Regular maintenance improves the performance of your system. It ensures that everything is functioning as it needs to be, which improves efficiency and energy costs whilst also improving the air quality.

Regular maintenance also contributes to the extended life of your equipment. It allows for early diagnosis of potential failures before they occur. It also ensures that any minor problems are rectified quickly.

Who Can Maintain

For some aspects of maintenance, you will be able to maintain your unit yourself. However, it is recommended that you arrange maintenance service visits with skilled technicians to have a qualified person check your unit and ensure there are no problems with it at least annually. This is especially recommended for commercial units as workplace safety rules and regulations apply.

We recommend creating a maintenance plan with expert technicians so that you can ensure you are having regular maintenance visits and keeping your unit functioning as it should.
