Mitsubishi Electric ComfortMaster: Whole Home Comfort, Room-by-Room Control

Vicky Keatley • October 23, 2026

What if your whole home could be comfortable, without every room having to be the same temperature?

Bedrooms, living areas and home offices aren't always used at the same time – and the people using them don't necessarily agree on what the perfect temperature should be.

Mitsubishi Electric ComfortMaster provides a smarter approach to whole-home heating and cooling by combining a Mitsubishi Electric Ducted Heat Pump with ZoneIQ intelligent zone control.

The result is discreet ducted heating and air conditioning throughout your home, with the ability to control the comfort of individual rooms or zones.

For Christchurch and Canterbury homeowners considering a ducted heat pump system, ComfortMaster offers a flexible solution that can be designed around your home, your family and the way you actually use each space.

What is Mitsubishi Electric ComfortMaster?

ComfortMaster isn't simply a standard ducted heat pump.

It combines a Mitsubishi Electric whole-home ducted heat pump with ZoneIQ, Mitsubishi Electric's intelligent zoning system. Depending on the system design, ZoneIQ can control up to 10 individual zones, allowing different areas of the home to have their own temperature settings.

For example, you might choose to have:

  • the living area at 22°C while you're relaxing in the evening;
  • a bedroom set to 18°C;
  • the home office at 20°C during the working day; and
  • unused guest rooms or other zones switched off.

The system remains in either heating or cooling mode – it does not heat one room while cooling another at the same time – but individual zones can have different temperature settings within that operating mode.

How Does ZoneIQ Room-by-Room Temperature Control Work?

Traditional ducted systems typically operate from a single temperature sensing point. That can mean areas with very different conditions – such as a sunny living room and a shaded bedroom – are treated much the same.

ZoneIQ takes a more targeted approach.

Sensors can monitor temperature and humidity within individual zones and communicate with the ZoneIQ Main Controller. The system compares the conditions in each zone with its selected temperature and adjusts airflow accordingly.

Intelligent dampers can automatically increase or reduce the amount of conditioned air going to each area. When a room reaches its selected temperature, airflow can be reduced and prioritised elsewhere.

That means your ducted heat pump is responding to what is happening throughout your home, rather than relying on one temperature reading.

Why is Zoning Useful in a Christchurch Home?

The way we use our homes changes throughout the day.

During the morning, bedrooms and living areas might be occupied. During working hours, perhaps only a home office needs conditioning. In the evening, attention moves back to the living spaces before bedrooms become the priority overnight.

Different rooms can also experience very different temperatures depending on their orientation, glazing, insulation and exposure to the sun.

ComfortMaster is designed to accommodate those differences.

Rather than conditioning every room in exactly the same way, you can concentrate heating or cooling where it is actually needed. Unoccupied zones can be switched off, while occupied rooms can maintain their selected temperature.

This can improve comfort while helping minimise unnecessary energy use. Mitsubishi Electric states that ZoneIQ is designed to improve energy efficiency compared with operating the same ducted system without ZoneIQ.

Discreet Whole-Home Heating and Cooling

One of the major attractions of a ducted heat pump is how unobtrusive it can be.

Rather than having a high-wall heat pump in several rooms, the indoor ducted unit is largely concealed, typically within the ceiling space, with conditioned air distributed through discreet ceiling or wall grilles.

Ducted heat pumps aren't just for new builds. They can also be installed in many existing Christchurch homes. The right solution will depend on your home's layout, available ceiling space and access, which is something our team can assess during an in-home consultation.

This makes ducted heating and cooling worth considering for both new Christchurch homes and existing properties, subject to an assessment of the building and available installation space.

Control Your ComfortMaster System from Your Phone

ComfortMaster with ZoneIQ also provides Wi-Fi Control, allowing you to manage the system using Mitsubishi Electric's app.

You can view zones together, see which areas are operating, adjust individual temperatures, switch unused zones off and update schedules from your smartphone or tablet.

Weekly scheduling can take this further. ZoneIQ supports up to 10 operating patterns across the week, allowing the system to better reflect your household routine.

For example, you could schedule the system to warm occupied areas before the household gets up on a winter morning or cool bedrooms ahead of bedtime during a hot Canterbury summer.

Key Benefits of Mitsubishi Electric ComfortMaster

  • Whole-home comfort: A single Mitsubishi Electric ducted heat pump can provide discreet heating and cooling across multiple areas of your home.
  • Up to 10 zones: ZoneIQ can be configured with up to 10 zones for more individualised control.
  • Individual room temperatures: Set different target temperatures for different zones rather than treating the entire house as one space.
  • Turn off rooms you're not using: There's no need to condition a spare room simply because you're heating or cooling the living area.
  • Intelligent airflow: ZoneIQ automatically adjusts damper positions according to the requirements of individual zones.
  • Wi-Fi Control: Manage temperatures, zones and schedules from your smartphone or tablet.
  • A discreet finish: With the main ducted equipment concealed and only grilles visible within the rooms, ComfortMaster can provide whole-home comfort without multiple wall-mounted indoor units.

Is ComfortMaster Suitable for an Existing Home?

Potentially, yes.  Although ducted heat pumps are often planned as part of a new build, Mitsubishi Electric also offers ducted solutions designed with renovations and retrofits in mind. The suitability of a ducted system will depend on factors such as ceiling space, access, your home's layout and where ductwork and grilles can be installed.

That's why an in-home consultation is particularly useful.

Rather than simply selecting a heat pump based on floor area, we can look at the layout of the home, how different rooms are used and the most appropriate zoning arrangement.

Comfort Designed Around the Way You Live

Everyone has a different idea of the perfect temperature – and your home isn't one big space.

ComfortMaster brings together the discreet appearance of a Mitsubishi Electric ducted heat pump with the flexibility of ZoneIQ room-by-room control.
