The Heat Pump People Look at Heat Pumps Inside-Out

Looking Inside Heat Pump

The Heat Pump Peoplevalue adaptability and dynamism as essential considerations when assessing the needs of your residency or business. It is this philosophy which underlies our passion for heat pumps in particular.

Here's a quick guide to how heat pumps work.

How Heat Pumps Work

Heat pumps work simply and intuitively.

A heat pump is a system that moves – or pumps – heat from one location to another by using a compressor and a circulating system of liquid or gas refrigerant (a refrigerating substance). Heat is extracted from the outside air and pumped back indoors to heat the interior of a building. The system can also be reversed, such that heat is extracted from the air inside a building, and pumped into the outside air, to create a cooling effect.

Because pumping heat works as a system of heat transferral and not simply a means of heat creation, it uses less electricity.

Pros and Cons of Heat Pumps

Heat Pump Pros

Heat pumps are more energy efficient, because they operate on a principle of heat transferral rather than systems that create all of the heat without regard to exterior conditions. Because less electricity is needed to be used, there are great long term savings on energy.

In general, heat pumps require less maintenance than boiling or combustion heating systems. Generally they need to be checked once a year for residential systems and more regularly for commercial systems depending upon the application. Filter cleans can be carried out by a residential home owner monthly, whilst a trained technician can carry out the yearly check.

Heat pumps use less energy and are more efficient – hence they produce fewer carbon emissions.

Heat pumps operate as a two in one – having the ability to both cool and heat an area via the same mechanism.

Unlike traditional heaters, which provide a concentrated area of heating, heat pumps distribute heat evenly throughout the home or business – meaning there are no unusual cool spots and an even climate is maintained.

Heat Pump Cons

An issue that can occur with heat pumps is that they can be less effective in colder climates if the incorrect system is installed. Therefore it is very important that you consult professionals - such as The Heat Pump People - to install the correct system for your specific requirements.

They can be slightly more complex to install depending upon the system and its installation location. However they often last for a very long time compared to other types of heating systems and offer lots of additional benefits (like being dual purpose and providing more heat or cooling for less energy consumption). The results over the long term are well worth the initial setup.

The Heat Pump People are passionate about the effectiveness of heat pumps as a dynamic solution to your heating and cooling needs. Our philosophy is to stay up to date in all developments of heat pump technology – delivering the best results for our clients.
